"Il balen del suo sorriso" aria from Il trovatore by Verdi | Lucas Meachem
The visual is TERRIBLE. But I can't express how long this journey has been to get to this pivotal baritone role, the proof in this video representing my current product means a lot to me personally. I'm thankful to my friend for capturing this from our final dress rehearsal here in Bologna. My apologies it serves nothing visually.
Bringing Conte di Luna to this most particular and knowledgeable opera audience, in the home of Verdi and Puccini of the Tuscan region, humbles me and grounds me in this music. Grazie!!!

NEW SINGLE / ORIGINAL SONG “I Will Love You for Christmas” 🎄🎵 by Lucas Meachem feat. Irina Meachem

Christmas means lots of things, and one for me is that I get a humble chance at attempting to fulfill my childhood dream of being a pop singer. As someone who sings opera, it’s pretty music an impossible and crazy dream, but this is my rare time to let that singer out from deep inside. Recently the songwriter in me has also been trying to get out and I sat down and this song came into existence...

"Dima" is so special - his voice changed with every 5 years, I guess, but always sounded truly his. No hiding he is my favorite baritone. Any song from any time of Dima's would be interesting to hear your take on, except for those from the phase of working with that slimy pop-musician, you know... 😀but wait, perhaps one of those, too, as a contrast? Listening and reaction request would be the Swedish cousins Hagegard, namely Erland (later tenor) and Hakan. Great darlings of mine. And also your reaction of divine Bjorling's duetto with Merrill in the Pearlfishers' in front of the temple. Incredibly touching. Merrill sounds phantastic, and so gently takes the second voice. You know them all for sure! Please, don't pick pitch-corrected recordings! Tell us when they are not: we need that information, to learn to hear the difference. I liked this reaction very much, interesting choices --- something special, noticable, with impressive Warren is that he can open his mouth to form rectangles, very wide or very high, and get out massive amounts of sound. (But I like Dmitri's Figaro's aria better, it's more elastic, lively, full of humor, as is very proper!)

That term isn't used in professional circles is it? It's one of those popular words like "icon" that suddenly everyone is using for no reason, right? Please tell me I'm right on this one : )

Milnes one of the greatest? Hmm don’t think so. Not of course that he wasn’t very good, however I feel MacNeil, Terfel, Taddei, Bastianini, Merrill, Warren, Waechter, Siepi, Berry were overall better.

I can tell you’re in the right place/fach for your voice. Definitely higher end of Baritone, but still better off in Baritone. And also beutiful voice. Some people have this weird obsession with singing higher = singing better. Sing where you’re voice sounds best and is most comfortable, free and healthy, and use your natural sound.

@@LucasMeachem1 lots of love man! I recently started taking lessons from a classical teacher. My voice also sits somewhere between high baritone and low tenor, but she explained why she thinks I lean more towards low tenor rather than Baritone and came to listen to the difference and can understand what she was saying. But I’m also not too obsessed with classifying my voice yet. Whats much more important is having good vocal technique, not having tension and having propermplacement and just being comfortable with where I’m singing. Perhaps sometimes there can be small differences between the high baritones and low tenors, but those seemingly small differences can make a big difference when choosing the right repertoire and you should not try to force a baritone to sing tenor like this. Just keep being you 👍

I primarily do backups, have for decades- In school my range was determined by true notes- so I was classified a " Bass/ Baritone" one third below typical baritone range, 2 octaves from F to F. I have experienced recent trouble with fatigue due to "muscle-ing" notes too often- and so I'm checking out all of the YT vocal vids... I actually wish I could sing higher.

Nicolae Herlea is (sadly, was) a Romanian baritone of German extraction (his surname was Herle, Romanised into Herlea). He was recognized as probably the most oustanding Romanian voice during his long career, but somehow never managed to quite enter the big international league, probably due in part to the Iron Curtain which hindered his visibility in the West. A similar fate befel Virginia Zeani, another truly unique Romanian singer, who also never got the international recognition she categorically deserved. There are recording of them singing together (in Traviata, for instance, with Herlea rendering an extraordinary G. Germont)

Just came onto your RUclips channel and it's a blast. As a tenor who, unfortunately, didn't have the 'chops' to sing opera, I can still enjoy all of its aspects. There are several I'd like to comment on, maybe later. But, this video on these golden age baritones made me think of a new guy I'd never heard of (or, of whom I never heard!). He was much more recent than these singers (the 70's and 80's,) I believe. Never heard of him, but he's is/was the real deal. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Brazilian baritone, Fernando Texeira. In my opinion, under appreciated, faboulous singer. Keep up the good works and good luck with your career. (Loved you in the Butterfly screening).
